Express Entry Update: IRCC Issues 2,500 ITAs in French Proficiency Draw

Recent Express Entry Draws:

  • Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued 2,500 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) in the second Express Entry draw of the week.

  • This draw focused on candidates with strong French language proficiency, requiring a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 336.

February Draws Recap:

  • On February 28, a general draw invited 1,410 candidates with a minimum CRS of 534 to apply.

  • Throughout February, a total of 13,610 candidates received ITAs across five draws, including general draws and category-based selection draws targeting candidates with strong French proficiency, healthcare occupations, and agriculture and agri-food occupations.

IRCC Confirms Categories for 2024:

  • Category-based selection rounds introduced in May 2023 remain unchanged for 2024.

  • These categories include:

  1. Healthcare occupations

  2. STEM professions

  3. Trades occupations

  4. Transport occupations

  5. Agriculture and agri-food occupations

  6. Strong French proficiency

  • IRCC consulted with stakeholders, including provincial and territorial governments, settlement services, and Canadian businesses, in selecting these categories.

Express Entry Overview:

  • Express Entry streamlines immigration application processing for economic candidates in three programs: Federal Skilled Worker Program, Canadian Experience Class, and Federal Skilled Trades Program.

  • Comprehensive Ranking System assesses candidates based on human capital attributes like occupation, education, language ability, work experience, and age.

  • Candidates receiving a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) nomination gain an additional 600 CRS points, significantly boosting their chances of receiving an ITA.

Projected ITAs for 2024:

  • IRCC aims to welcome 110,770 new Permanent Residents (PRs) through Express Entry in 2024, a significant increase from the previous year's target of 82,880.

  • In 2025 and 2026, PR allocations through Express Entry are set to stabilize at 117,500.

  • Starting in 2025, Canada's allocation for new PRs through the PNP will rise to 120,000, making provincial pathways the primary route for welcoming new economic immigrants.
